Micronutrients are a group of essential elements that all living beings, humans included, need in small amounts throughout life in order to carry out the metabolic and physiological functions that keep us healthy.

Micronutrients are essential elements for strengthening the immune system and making sure our metabolism works properly.

They are indispensable components for our body, since a shortage of any of them would mean serious health problems: for example, deficiencies in growth or in obtaining energy.

In human and animal nutrition, vitamins and minerals are considered micronutrients, and they take this name because they are needed daily in small amounts, generally less than 100 milligrams.

With a few exceptions, our body cannot synthesise them on its own. Fortunately, we can find them in very common foods that we should include in our diet in order to age in a healthy way.
